Developing a YouTube Channel

Back in March, I started posting videos on my YouTube channel. At first, I didn’t know what I was doing with it. Was it just going to be a place to market my book? Keep track of my writing journey? But as I thought more about it and put more work into it, I finally figured out my niche: being an online English teacher and Writing Coach.

Right now, I am working on a ten-video series called “How to Write Fiction,” which I am posting a new video for every Wednesday. It has been a lot of fun working on this project and thinking about how my channel can grow from here. Even though I only have 80 followers so far, I feel so much encouragement from the growth I have seen in this channel, both from people’s interest and from my own skills.

I really hope the content I create for this channel will help people grow as writers and develop a deeper love for storytelling. Overtime, I would love to figure out how to have a broader reach, which probably means figuring out how the heck social media works for marketing since the only two people whoever like my posts there are my brother and mother-in-law. I know there are a ton of things to consider with algorithems, time of posting, hashtags, and so on, so I know it’s just a matter of figuring it all out.

Until then, I am going to continue honing my ability to create engaging and informative content that will help my viewers. Some things for me to work on for my videos specifically are lighting, graphics, sound, and my presentation skills while working with a script. With each video I make, I understand these areas more, and I will continue striving to make high quality content.

Then, once I have strong handle on my YouTube channel, I hope to make this website something far more useful to my readers than just a place for me to talk. But… that’s a little ways down the road for now.
