About

Hello!

I’m C. Sloan Lewis, a speculative fiction novelist, English teacher, and avid reader, living in North Texas.

I’ve always been interested in the places where stories and real life overlap: the questions books leave us wrestling with, the ways stories help us understand one another, and the strange, difficult, beautiful work of trying to make something of our own.

I write fiction and nonfiction, and I’m particularly drawn to stories about people trying to find their way through difficult circumstances. My fiction tends toward speculative and literary territory, often exploring questions of identity, family, power, survival, and hope.

I earned a BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MEd in English and Instructional Leadership from American College of Education. I’ve spent the past decade teaching English, literature, writing, and the humanities to middle and high school students.

I am currently working toward traditionally publishing my fantasy novel while continuing to teach English and writing. Teaching has been an important part of my life for years, and working with young writers has only deepened my belief that writing is not simply a product we produce. It’s a way of paying attention.

This website is a place for me to share that work.

Here you’ll find writing about books, creativity, teaching, and the writing life, along with updates on my own projects. I’m less interested in the constant pressure to build a “writer brand” and more interested in making thoughtful work, reading good books, and finding the people who care about those things too.

If you’re here because you’re a reader, a writer, a teacher, or simply someone who believes stories matter, welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
