I Published a Book! (this isn’t a prank)

Yesterday, my debut novel The Soul Child was published through KDP and IngramSpark for both ebook and paperback. It being Easter, my accomplishment was a little overshadowed by other family stuff, but I am just happy to have my book out there in the world.

I have only sold a few copies thus far, but since the book launch party had to be pushed back a week, I know a lot of people in my life are waiting until then to buy it directly from me. Regardless, I know I ultimately won’t end up selling a lot of copies of this book, but I do hope that the more I publish the more people will become interested in my work.

What has been really interesting so far is hearing about the different places people buy their books where mine happens to be on now, ones I have never even heard of before. It was also really neat to arrive to work today and have a couple close coworkers tell me that it popped up on their ebook readers yesterday. One of them shared the screenshot of it downloading on Instagram and the other showed me where it was saved in the reading library on her phone. Even just these little things are already making the publishing process feel worth it.

There is still so much for me to learn about this world of indie publishing, but rather than feeling insecure, overwhelmed, or uncertain, I am feeling excited. I can’t wait to learn all there is to this world and do a better, more professional job each time I publish a new book. We’ll see what happens from here, and I am hopeful for the future.
